Cave of Petraloni

The cave of Petraloni is one of the most important monuments not only of Halkidiki but of the whole of Greece, which is visited by many people of all ages. The cave is known mainly for the traces of Archanthropus habitation of about 700,000 years, the oldest European ancestors that have been found to date.

The bulk of the cave finds are exhibited in the Anthropological Museum exhibition hall that has been erected next to the cave.
